Prairie du Sac (PDS) is a village about 25 miles north of Madison and just south of the waterpark capital of the U.S., the Wisconsin Dells. Being in between these two places give your amusement fun and city amenities. However, the 30 minute drive to Madison isn't very convenient as it's an hour round trip for whatever you're doing there. PDS is a pretty place located on the Wisconsin river. The downtown area is kept, but could be a lot more entertaining considering it's waterfront. Eating options are few. There's your standard Wisconsin bar/grills, and some local establishments. I don't recall any chain sit down restaurants. PDS is the home of Culver's which is fun, but Culver's OWNS the town. Aside from McDonald's (which was there before Culver's), Subway, and Pizza Hut there are no other fast food options! Taco Bell? They were coming and then Culver's bought the land out from under them! Fast isn't everything but options are seriously lacking. What small town doesn't have a Wal Mart, PDS! You have to drive for anything like Wal Mart or Target. So PDS is pretty, but not convenient.

The people of PDS are generally very small town. As in if you're not from PDS you might not fit in. Especially if you have kids. There's about 5 families that seem to run the town. Some of the kids of these families are not kind and might make your child's stay here miserable. It's a real black eye on the town. You'll have to enter with elementary aged kids if you want success in this avenue. The good news is the middle and high school are well run and will take care of things should your student have issues. They just won't have friends. Too bad the patriarchs of these families don't see this issue and teach their kids better.

Pretty place, very limited social options, not welcoming to older kids. Come retired or newly married.
